Frequently Asked Questions

Professional BBQ cleaning in San Diego typically ranges from $120 to $250 for a single residential grill, depending on size, type, and how much buildup is present. At Grime to Prime our flat-rate pricing is: $120 for a kamado or Big Green Egg, $160 for a standard 2–4 burner gas grill, $200 for a large 5–6 burner or built-in outdoor grill, and starting at $220 for offset smokers, pellet grills, and commercial units. A second grill cleaned during the same visit is discounted by $40. Prices include all labor, food-safe degreasers, and full reassembly with a safety check — there are no hidden fees and we confirm the final price on site before starting.

A standard 2–4 burner gas grill cleaning takes about 1.5 to 2 hours from setup to reassembly. Larger 5–6 burner grills, built-in outdoor kitchens, kamados, and pellet smokers usually take 2 to 3 hours because of the added disassembly steps and tighter cleaning surfaces. Premium restoration jobs on heavily neglected grills — heavy carbon buildup, rust on grates, blocked burner tubes — can run 3 hours or more. We bring everything we need, so you don't have to be involved during the service. We'll give you an accurate time estimate when you book based on your grill type and the photos you upload, and we'll confirm it on arrival.

Every cleaning agent we use on cooking surfaces is food-safe, biodegradable, and residue-free once rinsed. We use commercial-grade citrus and plant-based degreasers — the same class of products used in professional restaurant kitchens — which break down grease and carbon without leaving behind harsh chemicals, fumes, or films that could affect the flavor of your food. We don't use oven cleaners, lye-based caustics, or anything containing sodium hydroxide on grates or interior surfaces. Exterior stainless and powder-coat panels are polished with a non-toxic stainless cleaner. After every job we rinse and wipe each food-contact surface, so the grill is safe to fire up and cook on the same day we leave.

For most North County households grilling 2–4 times a week, a professional deep clean once or twice a year is the right cadence. Heavy users, anyone cooking fatty cuts like brisket or pork shoulder, and households grilling year-round should book every 3 to 4 months to stay ahead of grease buildup. Restaurants and commercial kitchens typically need quarterly service to meet health-code standards. Regular professional cleanings prevent dangerous flare-ups from accumulated grease in the firebox, extend the lifespan of burners and igniters by removing corrosive residue, and keep food tasting like food rather than last month's drippings. If you can't remember your last cleaning, it's time.

A grill that's never deep cleaned becomes a fire hazard, a health risk, and a much shorter-lived investment. Grease accumulates in the firebox and drip tray and eventually ignites — grease fires are the leading cause of grill-related house fires in the U.S. according to the National Fire Protection Association. Carbon buildup on grates and heat deflectors traps bacteria and rancid fats that transfer onto your food, producing off-flavors and exposing your family to known carcinogens like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Burner tubes corrode from trapped acidic residue, leading to uneven heating and early replacement. Most untouched grills are functionally dead within 4–6 years; cleaned regularly, the same grill lasts 10–15.

Yes — every cleaning is done on site at your home. We come fully self-contained with our own steam unit, vacuum, degreasers, brushes, microfiber cloths, and replacement parts for the most common consumables. The only thing we ask is access to an outdoor water spigot and roughly 6 feet of clearance around the grill so we can disassemble and lay out parts. You don't need to be present during the service — many of our customers leave a gate code or simply leave the side gate unlocked. We'll text when we arrive, send before/after photos, and let you know when the grill is back together and ready to use.

We service every common residential and light-commercial grill type in North County: gas and propane grills (Weber, Napoleon, Lynx, DCS, Bull, Coyote), built-in outdoor kitchen grills, kamado-style ceramic cookers (Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe, Primo), pellet grills (Traeger, Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Yoder), offset smokers, drum smokers, and charcoal kettles. We also handle commercial restaurant grills and food-truck units. Each grill type has its own disassembly procedure — for example, kamados need careful gasket handling and ceramic-safe cleaners; pellet grills require auger and hopper cleanout; built-ins need extra care around tile and stone surrounds. If you're not sure whether your grill fits, send us a photo when you book and we'll confirm pricing and approach.

Grime to Prime serves all of North County San Diego: Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Vista, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, and Escondido. We cover every neighborhood within these cities — including coastal areas like La Costa, Bressi Ranch, Aviara, Olde Carlsbad, Carlsbad Village, Cardiff, Leucadia, Olivenhain, and inland communities in San Marcos and Escondido. We come to single-family homes, condos with HOA outdoor cooking areas, restaurants, and food trucks. If you're located just outside our standard service area — for example, parts of Poway, Rancho Bernardo, or coastal La Jolla — call us at (760) 505-4269 and we'll often still accommodate. There's no extra travel fee within our 9-city core area.
